Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 13th meeting of the Government Revitalization Unit at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the evaluation results of the third round (first part) of the review of government programs and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "This time, I would like to receive a response on each of the evaluation results from the ministry or agency in charge by a clearly set deadline. For special accounts which will continue to be maintained, I ask Ms. Renho, Minister of State for Government Revitalization, to enhance governance and create a system which monitors these accounts even more rigorously than the system which monitors the general account.
I believe that the review of government programs is a key step in changing Japan's bureaucracy from being request-oriented to appraisal-oriented, and thereby fundamentally changing the budget formulation process. I would like to thoroughly consider the progress being made in each ministry and agency and eliminate all waste."
