First Day of the Visit to Viet Nam: Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting and Other Meetings
On October 29 (local time), Prime Minister Naoto Kan, who is visiting Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, for a series of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-related summit meetings, attended the 2nd Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting, the 13th Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting with the leaders of the 10 ASEAN member countries, and the ASEAN+3 (ASEAN plus Japan, China, and the Republic of Korea (ROK)) Summit Meeting.
After the meetings, Prime Minister Kan held a trilateral meeting with Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, and Mr. Lee Myung-bak, President of the ROK, and a bilateral meeting with Mr. Benigno Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines.
Later, prior to the East Asia Summit (EAS) scheduled for the following day, October 30, a banquet was hosted by Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Viet Nam, and his wife, which Prime Minister Kan attended together with the leaders of 10 ASEAN member countries, China, the ROK, India, Australia, and New Zealand, and other guests.
