Prime Minister Naoto Kan held a meeting of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the acceleration of discussion for global standardization strategies and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his address, "The promotion of strategies for intellectual property and standardization has been set as one of the 21 national strategic projects, and is an important pillar of the New Growth Strategy. I have received a report recently confirming that this project is progressing well. I would like to request the ministries in particular to accelerate discussion for global standardization strategies. The establishment of global standards will determine Japan's future industrial competitiveness. I would like to tackle the issue with a sense of urgency."
