Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 93rd meeting of the Council for Science and Technology Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister received a report on the status of considerations for the formulation of the Fourth Science and Technology Basic Plan, the results of the decision-making process on prioritization of FY2011 budget requests, and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "I believe the results of the decision-making process on prioritization which were reported today will contribute to the realization of a high-quality science and technology budget.
Additionally, one other subject widely discussed in the context of the Fourth Science and Technology Basic Plan is that the research Nobel Prize winners conducted around their 30s bore fruit years later, and came to be widely applied in society. I believe it is very important for science and technology of Japan that young researchers steadily carry out research which has the potential of winning the Nobel Prize in the future.
With a view to implementing 'green innovation' and 'life innovation' which were included in the New Growth Strategy, I ask the Council to make efforts in order to be able to submit a solid report at the end of the year."
