Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 12th meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease at the Diet building.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "The remaining challenge is to extend business support in order for farmers to be able to resume the livestock business with a sense of reassurance, and to lay out the support measures for the broad rehabilitation of the regional economy targeting related industries, commerce and manufacture, tourism, and other sectors.
For this end, I have had the relevant ministries listen to the requests of local communities, including Miyazaki Prefecture, and make a number of serious considerations.
I understand that the ministries responded proactively, beginning with the establishment of a fund for the implementation of programs needed to revive the livestock industry and rehabilitate the regional economy.
I once again ask you to continue working closely with local governments and relevant organizations and to make utmost efforts for the rehabilitation measures."
