Prime Minister Naoto Kan held a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on the Economy at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on economic measures including the supplementary budget for FY2010.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "Among the Three-Step Economic Measures (for the Realization of the New Growth Strategy) decided by the government, the first step, which is an urgent response to the strengthening of the yen and other problems, has already been implemented. I would like to continue on to consider the implementation of the second step. Based on recommendations from the ruling and opposition parties, I would like its five pillars to be 'employment and human resources development,' 'promotion of the New Growth Strategy,' 'child-rearing, medical care, long-term care, and welfare,' 'regional revitalization, development of social capital, and measures for small-and medium-sized enterprises,' and 'system and regulation reforms.'"
