Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the ninth meeting of the Council on Security and Defense Capabilities in the New Era at the Prime Minister's Office, where he received a report entitled "Japan’s Vision for Future Security and Defense Capabilities in the New Era" from Mr. Shigetaka Sato, Chairman of the Council.

The Prime Minister said in his address after receiving the report, "You have vigorously and intensively held discussions for approximately half a year since February to contribute to the review of the National Defense Program Guidelines. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to you for submitting this report today. The review of the National Defense Program Guidelines is an important issue concerning national security, and the government will thoroughly review them from the viewpoint of responding to the international security environment."
