Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 15th Ministerial Meeting Concerning Measures Against Crime at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussions took place on comprehensive measures to eliminate child pornography, progress of various measures against crime, and other topics.

The Prime Minister said, "Although the public security situation in Japan is said to have improved overall, as far as individual cases are concerned, there must be many cases that inflict a great deal of unhappiness upon the people. The most crucial aspect about the role of politics is indeed in eliminating such unhappiness. In particular, child pornography which torments socially vulnerable children is a criminal act that should never be forgiven. By promoting the comprehensive measures to eliminate child pornography, we need to prevent damage caused by child pornography and the expansion thereof, as well as ensuring protection of victimized children. I would like to ask each minister to make robust efforts toward eliminating crime, including the aforementioned comprehensive measures to eliminate child pornography."
