Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the first meeting of the Committee on Personal Support Service at the Prime Minister's Office.

This committee is intended to deliberate on the institutionalization of a Personal Support Service, where "personal supporters" individually and continually support users facing various life difficulties by providing advice and counseling as well as by introducing them to various services.

At the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Kan delivered an address, saying, "I deeply sympathize with the idea of personal support, that is, the idea of coordinating necessary support services for people in difficulty beyond the limitation of the vertically-segmented institutions and schemes. I look forward to hearing substantial discussion on the idea of personal support at this Committee, which is also attended by some experts."
