Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the ninth meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister delivered an address, saying, "On July 4, a new suspected case of foot-and-mouth disease was found in Miyazaki City. The suspected animals were diagnosed by photograph, and were slaughtered and buried immediately after being diagnosed according to the manual compiled based on previous experience. I would like to express my gratitude to those who were involved for their swift response. I ask the relevant ministries to continue to tackle the issue in an even more thorough manner without relaxing their vigilance, conducting rigorous disinfection work, and to be prepared to take swift measures in the case of a new outbreak."
