Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the fourth meeting of the Council for the Formulation of a Growth Strategy at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Kan said, "I said in my policy speech "a strong economy," "robust public finances," and "a strong social security system," but without a strong economy, neither public finances nor social security system can be viable. This new growth strategy will be the driver for a strong economy. In this sense, today's work will not just end with the compilation of the new growth strategy, but will be continued into the budget allocation, which will be decided in line with the new growth strategy. The new growth strategy will be a major pillar of decision on the upcoming budget formulation."
