Prime Minister Naoto Kan held talks with Mr. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed initiatives of the Afghan government to tackle various issues, the prospect of bilateral relations beyond this year marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and establishment of a policy dialogue channel between Japan and Afghanistan, among other topics.
After the meeting, the leaders held a joint press announcement.
