Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the sixth meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease in the morning at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister said, "This is the fourth meeting of this headquarters since the inauguration of the new Cabinet. This conveys the extent of the challenge as a national crisis that we have yet to overcome. We are on the brink as to whether or not the disease will spread throughout the entire Kyushu Island, and we must make the utmost effort to stop the disease from spreading outside Miyazaki Prefecture by all means. I would like to renew the resolve to do all that can be done to fight against the disease."
