Outline regarding management of Fukushima Daiichi Unit 3

March 13, 2011

[Provisional Translation]

Due to loss of electric power for operating water pomp to feed water into the reactor, water inside the reactor went down to the level that exposes the upper part of the fuel rod.

TEPCO operated a series of actions as below: a vent of pressure vessel was opened at 9:05 and the pressure inside reduced. Injection of pure water was started at 9:08. To further improve safety, boric acid was mixed at 9:25.

Furthermore, vent containment started at 9:20. Through then series of actions, it is expected that the cooling down of the containment reactor has started.

After starting vent at 9:20, a slight amount of radioactive materials were released from exhaust pipe.

Although an increase in the amount of radiation was detected since the radiation release, the government confirmed that the detected amount would not affect the human body. Please rest assured.
