Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will be visiting Sendai tomorrow. He will visit Miyagi Prefecture tomorrow, July 3, to attend the opening ceremony of the World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku, which will be held in Sendai, and make observations in the disaster-affected areas in Miyagi Prefecture. The World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku is an international conference co-hosted by the Japanese Government and international organizations with the aim of building disaster-resilient societies through global efforts with Japan's leadership. Prime Minister Noda will deliver an address at the opening ceremony. He intends to speak on Japan's resolve toward reconstruction and international contributions in the area of disaster reduction. Prime Minister Noda is also scheduled to meet with Governor Yoshihiro Murai of Miyagi Prefecture. Furthermore, after attending the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Noda is scheduled to visit: (1) a site where a disaster-prevention forest is being created along the coast utilizing renewable debris materials; and (2) a vegetable cultivation facility which has restored land damaged from the tsunami and makes full use of advanced technologies.
