Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
Q&As
(Abridged)
REPORTER: I have a follow-up question to yesterday's press conference about the export of nuclear power station technologies. At yesterday's press conference, you said that a policy on the export of nuclear power stations themselves has not yet been decided. However, during the days of the Kan administration in August, I believe the Cabinet approved a written answer to the written questions regarding the export of nuclear power stations, about the provision of nuclear power stations which meet the highest safety standards in the world. What are your thoughts on the consistency between your statement and the written answer?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: Our existing view on the export of nuclear power station technologies has not been changed. My statement was that in the context of international nuclear cooperation, we will continue to make efforts to share our experiences and lessons learned from the nuclear power station accident in order to contribute to the international exchanges on nuclear safety. From this perspective, we will steadily promote our cooperation with various countries that has been promoted to date. Also, based on a thorough verification of the causes of the nuclear power accident, we intend to compile as soon as possible Japan's views on the scheme for international nuclear cooperation, including the export of nuclear power stations.
