Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 5th Meeting on Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, discussions took place on themes to be discussed in the future; the status of implementation of the reports by the Education Rebuilding Council and the 1st report compiled at the Meeting on Education Rebuilding; and the establishment of requirements to improve the quality and quantity of textbooks, among other matters.
In his opening address, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The members of the meeting have conducted discussions on various themes, including the improvement in the quality and quantity of textbooks, ways to enhance the quality of English-language education, and the issue of the use of mobile phones by elementary and junior high school students. It seems to me that there are countless education issues. I would like you to continue to discuss these issues from various perspectives, with the aim of producing results, in some form, from such discussions."
