Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a Meeting on Finance with Related Ministers and Others at the Prime Minister's Office.
The meeting was held in response to the bankruptcy of a major US financial institution, and was attended by finance-related ministers as well as the Governor of the Bank of Japan who discussed measures to minimize the impact of the bankruptcy on the Japanese economy. It was confirmed that the Government and the Bank of Japan will closely watch world market trends and exchange information intensively with financial authorities of other countries including the United States. Prime Minister Fukuda issued an instruction, saying, "I would like to see thorough measures taken that enable full responses to any unexpected events." It was also confirmed that government ministries and agencies will act in concert in the event that any negative effects on the Japanese economy are detected.
