Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 21st meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, discussions took place on a comprehensive measure for pursuing life security, aimed at consolidating truly needed financial resources and further strengthening the Japanese economy. Expert members proposed the basic stance on the comprehensive measure and priority items to be included in formulating the comprehensive measures, among other matters.
Prime Minister Fukuda said, "Japan can, by itself, resolve some of the issues that it is facing, but not others. Yet, we must tackle the issues one by one with attention to detail. Among them, I would like to sit down to work on issues affecting small and medium enterprises (SME) in particular. Specifically, it has been pointed out that SME finances are facing various issues, which I would like the Government to address to the extent possible, as I had already instructed the Minister of State for Financial Services to do. We will also work earnestly to decide the details of the economic package, while, as a matter of fact, keeping an eye on the issue of the fiscal situation. I would like to come up with an effective measure that can help alleviate the people's anxiety."
