Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda attended the send-off event at a hotel in Tokyo for the Japanese national team competing at the Beijing 2008 Games of the XXIX Olympiad that is to start from August 8, and delivered an address.
Prime Minister Fukuda encouraged the members of the Japanese national team by saying, "I sincerely hope that you show to the world a sense of 'Here are the youth of Japan' through competitive fair play. As a Japanese national, I am excited to see the Olympic Games. Many people will be glued to the television once the Olympics have started, and I will probably be no exception to that. Please do your best and demonstrate the best of your abilities. I wish for all of you to achieve even better scores by doing your utmost while sweating in the hot weather in Beijing. We are really anxious to see you making your best efforts."
