Japan-Kuwait Summit Meeting

At the meeting, the leaders exchanged opinions on a broad range of topics, including bilateral relations, economy, and energy. They agreed to establish an intergovernmental joint committee to strengthen bilateral relations in the areas of economy and commerce in particular, with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry serving as co-chairs from the Japanese side, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Kuwait side. Furthermore, on economy and energy, the leaders, holding the view that stability in global oil markets is the key to sound and sustainable growth of the world economy, agreed that the current level of the price of crude oil is against the interests of both the oil consuming and producing countries. The Kuwait side expressed its commitment to guarantee a stable oil supply to Japan. After the talks, the Memorandum on the Establishment of a Joint Committee and the Memorandum on the Holding of Bilateral Talks were signed in attendance of both leaders at the signing ceremony.
