Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 6th meeting of the Headquarters for Youth Development at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, a framework of a new Outline of Measures for Youth Development, to be drawn up toward the end of this year, was compiled. Three basic principles stipulated in the framework are: putting the youth's position first; assisting healthy youth development with the aim of achieving their social dependence; and providing seamless assistance tailored to the individual situation of each youth. Likewise, five pillars for the promotion of measures include: securing the healthy development of each youth; and forming the foundations for healthy youth development, including trust in parents and other people, a sense of self-respect, and an orderly lifestyle.
The Prime Minister said, "Youth issues such as youth crimes are reflections of adult society. It is important to consider the modality of society that is having various impacts on youth development."
