Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 6th Ministerial Meeting on the Pension Record Problem at the Prime Minister's Office.
Included on the agenda, among other matters, was the course of actions to be taken to address the pension record problem. At the meeting, major responses to the problem were identified, including the development of finely-tuned efforts to ask the people to check their individual pension records, the advancement of the identification work tailored to the record details, and the building of a mechanism that will enable the people to check their pension records at their convenience.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The Government is addressing the pension record problem in line with the policies agreed upon with the ruling parties, which were announced on July 5 of last year. I ask the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare to steadily address the problem so as to maintain the accuracy of the people's pension records, based on the status of progress of the works thus far and investigation results, and in accordance with the course of actions identified today. What is of particular importance in addressing the problem is to ensure that each and every one of the people check their individual pension records. As such, the cooperation of a great many parties, including municipalities that confirm records, corporations that distribute and collect notifications, and labor unions and welfare participants that disseminate information, is essential for the Pension Special Notification Service. This is an endeavor involving the entire nation. I am determined to do my utmost for the solution of the problem."
