Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the Ministerial Meeting Concerning Measures Against Crime at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Ministers discussed various crime issues from a broad perspective, including the recent indiscriminate murder incident in the Akihabara district, the strengthening of regulations such as the hunting gun license control, the promotion of the countermeasures for organized crime, and the advancement of the public safety measures that take into consideration the results of the G8 Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting 2008. The Ministers also confirmed that they will compile a new action plan for crime prevention by the end of the year.

Prime Minister Fukuda gave instructions to the Ministers, saying, "What is important for the measures against crime is to address the cause, and to look into the social background of the crime, in addition to controls by investigating authorities. The government agencies' comprehensive and sustained efforts are also essential. I ask the Ministers to consider effective measures toward the compilation of a new action plan, including the further enhancement of measures against organized crime, among others, and social rehabilitation assistance to discharged prisoners."
