Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 8th meeting of the Council for Promoting Consumer Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda received a report from Mr. Takeshi Sasaki, Chair of the Council, in which the Council's opinions on the establishment of an Agency for Consumer Affairs were compiled. This organization is to implement consumer policy in an integrated manner, as opposed to the traditional approach of over-compartmentalized administration. The report, among other points, also outlines six principles to which the new organization is required to adhere.
Receiving the report, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The people's understanding is essential to realize these policies. It is also important that consumer centers nationwide provide services with thorough understanding of the purpose of this. Gaining the people's understanding across the nation is a large task ahead of us."
