Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 46th meeting of the IT Strategic Headquarters at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, the IT Policy Roadmap was decided, and the members of the Headquarters discussed the Priority Policy Program 2008, a concrete policy of measures to be compiled in line with the IT Policy Roadmap.
Regarding the IT Policy Roadmap, the mid-term report was made at the previous meeting of the Headquarters. Since then, the acceleration of efforts described in the Roadmap has been deliberated on, particularly with regard to the effort to further advance e-government. The items reviewed in the deliberation were explained during this 46th meeting of the Headquarters.
An explanation was also provided on the annual plan of the Priority Policy Program 2008, which, based on the IT Policy Roadmap, outlines the priority measures for FY2008 to achieve goals in 15 areas stipulated under the New Strategy for IT Reform.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The IT Policy Roadmap has been decided today. I ask each of the members to make efforts to resolve this issue with a sense of urgency, bearing in mind the reform roadmap. As explained earlier today, the implementation period of the Roadmap plan was shortened from five years to two years, which goes to show that we can do it if we resolve to do it. I, too, am determined to lead the efforts, with a sense of urgency, in all the sectors."
