All the Cabinet members including Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda attended the Cabinet meeting wearing laid-back Okinawan kariyushi shirts.

This was in response to the request to the Cabinet members made by Mr. Nobutaka Machimura, Chief Cabinet Secretary, at the gathering of ministers on May 27 to wear kariyushi shirts when they attend the Cabinet meeting on June 6. The Government of Japan asks the people's cooperation in conducting a Cool Biz campaign from June 1 to September 30 of this year, as was conducted in previous years, in which the people are encouraged to set the room temperature at 28 degrees Celsius as well as take other steps to reduce the burden on the environment.
