Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 5th Ministerial Meeting on the Pension Record Problem at the Prime Minister's Office.

With the agenda being the status of progress of responses to the pension record problem, the Ministers at the meeting made reports on the sending of notifications being conducted under the Pension Special Notification Service and the receiving of responses to the notifications, as well as on the main points of progress of works related to identification and integration of the pension records, among other measures being implemented.

In response, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The Pension Special Notification Service is the pillar of the responses to the pension record problem, and as such, I would like the Ministers to ensure that all the necessary measures are taken effectively under this service. The rates of response to the notifications sent under the service by the end of March are gradually increasing: 70% for those who paid contributions under the former social insurance program and 40% for current pension contributors. Going forward, we will make inquires once again to those who have yet to respond to the notifications. Even for those responses indicating that no corrections to the records are required, I would like the people in charge to conduct further and thorough investigations. We started sending out notifications to approximately 95 million people -- all the pension recipients and contributors -- this April, with the cooperation of a great many parties: municipalities are confirming records; corporations are distributing and collecting notifications; labor unions are disseminating information; and welfare participants, as well. I will see to it that the work undertaken by those parties is well coordinated, making sure that the entire nation is involved in the current endeavors."
