Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 4th Meeting on Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda received the first report on the discussions at the Meeting from Mr. Yuichiro Anzai, Chair of the Meeting. Six measures outlined in the report are: to protect children from harmful information; to support young guardians raising children; to undertake a Plan for 300,000 Exchange Students as national strategy; to fundamentally review English-language education; to conduct practical education on the environment; and to promptly advance efforts to strengthen the earthquake resistance of school buildings.

Receiving the report, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "I view all the measures described in the report that I received today as important issues. Parents must give careful consideration to their children's use of mobile phones. We also have to think about how we as a society will address this issue. Going forward, I expect further discussions to take place, in order to come up with more concrete actions on these points. A Plan for 300,000 Exchange Students requires a strategic response, and furthermore, effective English-language education can only be achieved with firm determination. I ask the members of the Meeting to conduct further discussions, with a view to reflecting the results of the report in policy."
