During the meeting, the two leaders expressed the intention to hold political consultations at senior-official level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs on a regular basis, in principle once a year, as well as their willingness to further promote bilateral economic relations. The leaders furthermore exchanged opinions concerning the WTO Doha Round and the situations that are prevailing in major regions, including East Asia, which encompasses North Korea. After the Summit, the three leaders held a joint press conference, in which Prime Minister Fukuda said, "I am glad to be able to announce these results together with the EU.
