Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 17th meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Gender Equality at the Diet building.
At the meeting, the Program to Accelerate Women's Participation was adopted. This Program incorporates a set of the government's measures to promote women's advancement in society, such as the goal to achieve, by 2020, a share of approximately 30%, at least, of women in leading positions in society.
Prime Minister Fukuda said, "Human resources are a nation's treasure. It is vital that we have a shining treasure -- women -- to ensure our nation a bright future. Today, we adopted the Program to Accelerate Women's Participation. I am convinced that vibrant women will lead the growth of our economy and the society of tomorrow."
