Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a meeting of the Ministerial Meeting on the Pension Record Problem at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda received reports on the status of progress for sending of notifications being conducted under the Pension Special Notification Service and receiving of responses to the notifications, and for the advancement of the name identification for unattributed pension records, as well as on the schedule for measures to be taken to address the pension record problem, among other matters.
Prime Minister Fukuda gave the following instructions to the Ministers in attendance. "First, I expect senior officials at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Social Insurance Agency to make further efforts in accurately grasping the status of works conducted under their respective jurisdictions, and in promptly reporting to those people concerned. Secondly, I expect a system to be established to ensure that the results of all the works are constantly evaluated from a third party perspective and the methods employed in the works are improved in a swift manner. Thirdly, efforts must be advanced to ultimately clear away the people's concern over the pension record problem, while grasping an overall picture of ways to solve the problem and of the risks. Fourthly, I expect the Ministers to consider how the current works will impact the service of the Japan Pensions Organization that is to be established in the future, what led to the current situation, and how the new organization should be built based on the lessons learned. What is important is to consider these things from the people's perspective, without being constrained by the precedents and interests of your organizations. I expect your utmost efforts in these endeavors."
