Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 19th meeting of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the meeting, members of the Headquarters discussed the modalities of the intellectual property strategy for open innovation, comprehensive measures for content promotion in the digital era, and formulation of the Intellectual Property Strategic Program 2008, among other topics.
Prime Minister Fukuda said, "We are in an era where technological progress and market evolution are constantly taking place at a truly astonishing speed, requiring prompt responses. As such, it is extremely important that the intellectual property system, including the Copyright Act, is adapted to the changing environment. It is essential that intellectual property is used strategically, not limited to protecting creative activity, and based on that standpoint, I intend to structure policies that will firmly support open innovation and overseas marketing of Japan's contents."
