Japan-Croatia Summit Meeting Wednesday, March 5, 2008 JAPANESE

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda met with Mr. Stjepan Mesic, the President of the Republic of Croatia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. While referring to the fact that the commemorative day when the Prime Minister welcomed the first visit to Japan by a President of the Republic of Croatia coincided with the day commemorating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Croatia, Prime Minister Fukuda said in his words of welcome, "It is truly gratifying to see that the bilateral relations are developing steadfastly in a variety of areas such as the economy, tourism, culture, and sports." At the meeting, the leaders discussed various topics, including the strengthening of their bilateral economic relations, regional issues, and reform of the United Nations. After the meeting, President Mesic awarded Prime Minister Fukuda a decoration in honor of the Prime Minister's efforts to promote friendly relations between the two countries.
