Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda visited the Setagaya Social Insurance Office in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, and observed the work of confirming pension records, as well as the operation of the consultation service for the people's inquiries about their pension records.
Having observed the office, the Prime Minister said, "I understand that it is painstaking work to check each and every one of the pension records. While some are easily identified, others are not, but regardless of difficulty all must be checked." He then expressed his commitment toward resolving the issue, saying, "The issue of pension records must be resolved by all means. Otherwise, we will lose the people's trust in the pension system. We are now consolidating the foundation of the system: in other words, we are engaged in the process of system reconstruction. What we are undertaking right now is, therefore, more labor-intensive work than was required when starting up the system. Nevertheless, the task must be completed, and I take this as a major mission entrusted to me."
