Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held an Emergency Ministerial Meeting on the Surge in the Crude Oil Price and Subcontracted Small and Medium Enterprises at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The meeting was held to consider without delay and from a broad perspective a package of responses tailored to different needs to counteract the recent surge in the crude oil price that is coming to have a direct impact on the people's daily lives and the management of subcontracted small and medium enterprises.
At the meeting, the ministers decided on basic cross-sectoral policies encompassing small and medium enterprises, daily-life measures for the people living on remote islands and in cold regions, and efforts for stabilizing the international crude oil market, among other responses.
In his address, Prime Minister Fukuda instructed the Cabinet members in attendance "to promptly consider and take necessary measures in line with the basic policies decided on in the meeting, sincerely heeding the concerns of people preparing for severe winter." Prime Minister Fukuda stated, "I expect the Government to make active and united efforts to this end."
