Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a meeting of the Unified Headquarters for the Regional Revitalization at the Diet building.
At this meeting, the Regional Revitalization Strategy was approved. The set of measures includes the creation of the Revitalization Project for Cheerful Regions, in which the government assists innovative programs initiated by regions, instead of presenting standards, in advance, for each policy area.
Prime Minister Fukuda pointed out that, "To imbue vitality in the regions, it is essential to heed their voices and make full use of their innovation." He then instructed the relevant ministers to vigorously promote measures, based on the Regional Revitalization Strategy, to revitalize regions in a united effort of the whole government.
