Japan-Micronesia Summit Meeting

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a meeting with Mr. Emanuel Mori, the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda stated that he cordially welcomed President Mori on his first visit to Japan since assuming the office of President. Prime Minister Fukuda further stated that Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia enjoyed a long history of relations, and for Japan the Federated States of Micronesia was a country of particular affinity with many Japanese descendents, including President Mori himself, living there. Prime Minister Fukuda said to President Mori that taking the opportunity presented by this Japan-Micronesia Summit Meeting, the Japanese government had decided to establish a permanent post of an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to be stationed in the Federated States of Micronesia and was making preparations to that end. In response, President Mori expressed his hope for the further strengthening of Japan-Micronesia relations, and extended his appreciation for economic cooperation that Japan extended to the Federated States of Micronesia. In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on the United Nations Security Council reform and climate change issues, among others. Related link:
