Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda received a report entitled, "Basic Approach to the Fundamental Reform of the Taxation System," which was finalized at the general meeting of the Tax Commission held on November 20, from Mr. Yutaka Kosai, the Chair of the Tax Commission, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
In response to the request for consultation made in November last year, the Tax Commission has deliberated on how the taxation system should be adapted to the changes in Japan, and has conducted studies and analyses on the overall picture of the taxation system that the nation should pursue from a mid- to long-term perspective.
The report sets out the basic approach to taxation reform. ‚ht calls on the government to review the taxation system at the earliest possible date, in order to secure a stable supply of revenue sources for responding to any possible increases in burden caused by social security services that support people's lives and the declining birthrate, after implementing thorough expenditure reforms to adjust to the changes in economic and social structures in the 21st century. Then, the report discusses tax items including individual income tax, corporate tax and consumption tax.
