Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda attended the East Asia Summit (EAS) and other meetings that were held in the Republic of Singapore.

In the morning, Prime Minister Fukuda attended the Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting. During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his intention to promote the economic integration of East Asia, now that the negotiations for the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) Agreement had been concluded. In response, the leaders of the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) stated that they welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations and that they would aim for the AJCEP Agreement's early entry into force.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda met with Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, the country holding the chairmanship of the EAS and other meetings. The two leaders discussed issues related to Myanmar and North Korea, among others.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Fukuda held talks with Mr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, and exchanged opinions with him on various topics, ranging from Japan-India bilateral economic relations to global issues including environmental ones, and the fight against terrorism. Furthermore, Prime Minister Fukuda invited Prime Minister Singh to visit Japan, to which Prime Minister Singh said that he was looking forward to visiting next year.

The EAS Meeting was held in the afternoon. The leaders agreed on the Singapore Declaration on Climate Change, Energy and the Environment, in which the participating countries expressed their will to tackle global warming as the common issue that the region must address, and signed the Declaration.

In the evening, Prime Minister Fukuda met with Mr. Thein Sein, the Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar. Prime Minister Fukuda conveyed to Prime Minister Thein Sein that it was important for the government of Myanmar to send a clear message, without fail, that the country is advancing toward democratization. Also, Prime Minister Fukuda requested that the Myanmar side make a fully-fledged response to the recent incident that took the life of a Japanese national in Myanmar.

Prime Minister Fukuda held a press conference in the evening, summing up his visit to Singapore, and returned to Japan on the morning of November 22.
