Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a meeting of the Education Rebuilding Council at the Prime Minister's Official Residence, the first meeting after the inauguration of the Fukuda Cabinet.

In his address, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "I am very much eager to see active discussions continue to take place at the Council, with each and every one of the members giving their constructive opinions. The Council's initiative to further enhance education rebuilding efforts is greatly appreciated."

At the meeting, the Council members exchanged opinions on follow-ups to their first and second reports. They also exchanged views on the issues to be discussed for the compilation of the third report, including the unified primary and lower secondary school education system, the stipulation for school years ("6-3-3-4 system"), and the early admission system.
