Upon learning of the demise of former President Corazon Aquino of the Philippines, I would like to express, on behalf of the Government and people of Japan, my sincere condolences to the Government and people of the Philippines. Ms. Aquino was a symbol of the restoration of democracy in the Philippines and contributed to the promotion of the friendship between Japan and the Philippines for many years. I would like to reiterate our deepest respect for Ms. Aquino's extensive achievements.
