The second supplementary budget of fiscal 2008 was passed today. This supplementary budget is intended to respond boldly to the urgent challenges of dispelling people's anxieties over their daily lives and of protecting employment amidst the severe economic situation. While the supplementary budget was passed today, related bills to secure the financial resources need to be passed in order expeditiously to translate the countermeasures into action. I hope that the related bills will be approved at an early date, so as to make it possible to implement the second stage of the "three-stage rocket" of economic countermeasures as soon as possible. The government will proceed with preparations for the implementation of the fixed-sum stipend and other measures.
