At the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Taro Aso collected the letters of resignation by the Cabinet members and decided on the general resignation of the Cabinet. The Prime Minister then held a press conference.
He said, "Japan has many seeds for future development. I am confident that with the people's efforts and the government's steering, Japan cannot fail to develop. The people of Japan must seek development with confidence and pride and, on that basis, build a society which provides peace of mind to its members. At the same time, Japan must make further contributions to the stability and development of the international community, as a nation of Asia and of the world. I firmly believe in the strength of the Japanese people, who have achieved growth by overcoming a number of hardships. Japan has a bright future ahead -- I would like to leave this message to the people, as an expression of hope for the future. Thank you very much."
