Prime Minister Taro Aso visited the Japan Patent Office in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

After receiving an explanation on the outline of the visit from Mr. Tetsuhiro Hosono, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office, Prime Minister Aso received an explanation on the patent system and then observed a "blue rose" and a walking aid robot.

The Prime Minister also received an explanation on the design system and the trademark system. He observed registered cases for measures against counterfeit goods, and traditional craftworks with regional organization trademarks.

Lastly, Prime Minister Aso observed, while receiving an explanation, a relief of the ten greatest inventors displayed at the lobby of the Japan Patent Office.

After the visit, Prime Minister Aso said, "I had a glimpse of Japan's cutting-edge technologies, some of which, I believe, would support Japan in the days to come. I also saw a variety of regional brands, which would be a source of regional revitalization. It was good that we introduced a region-specific patent system."
