Prime Minister Taro Aso received a courtesy call from Ms. Yu Ikenaga, the Miss Nippon "Marine Day," and others at the Prime Minister's Office, and had a blue feather pin, the symbol of the Blue Feather Campaign, attached to his lapel.

The Blue Feather Fund supports volunteers' life-saving activities in marine accidents. As part of the Blue Feather Campaign, the kick-off event for the Blue Feather Fundraising Period that runs from July 1 to August 31, the Prime Minister and others are each asked to wear a blue feather pin for the fundraising campaign.

Increased public participation in the campaign is expected to heighten the people's awareness of maritime safety, as well as to further promote the Blue Feather Fundraising Campaign for various purposes including off-shore rescue activities by life-saving volunteers.
