During the session, a draft resolution protesting the missile launch by North Korea was submitted, which was adopted by majority vote.
Following the adoption of the resolution, Prime Minister Aso delivered a policy speech. He said, "The missile launch by North Korea is directly linked to its missile development. It is a provocative act which undermines the peace and stability of not only Northeast Asia, including Japan, but also of the international community. Such an act is absolutely intolerable. The launch also violates the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1695 and 1718, which demand North Korea to suspend all activities related to its ballistic missile program. The government, in accordance with the principle of the resolution adopted today and in close collaboration with the United States, the Republic of Korea and other countries concerned, will make utmost efforts for the United Nations Security Council to swiftly send a unified strong message and for other endeavors."
