During the plenary session, a draft resolution calling on North Korea to restrain from launching a flying object was submitted, which was unanimously adopted by vote.
Following the adoption of the resolution, Prime Minister Aso delivered the government's policy speech. He said, "A launch of a flying object by North Korea is a provocative act which undermines the peace and stability of not only Northeast Asia, including Japan, but also of the international community. Such an act is absolutely intolerable. The launch would violate the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1695 and 1718, which demand North Korea to suspend all activities related to its ballistic missile program. In accordance with the principle of the resolution adopted today, the government will continue urging North Korea to restrain from the launch, in close cooperation with related countries, including the United States and the Republic of Korea. Should North Korea force through the launch despite the government's efforts, first we intend to discuss the matter thoroughly at the United Nations Security Council."
