This was the fifth of the meetings to be held to address the deterioration of the Japanese economy triggered by the global financial crisis. Divided into 10 groups, leading experts of various fields advise the Prime Minister in a comprehensive manner on how to steer Japan's economic and fiscal policies going forward.
This time, the meeting was divided into five sessions with the participation of 12 experts specializing in the social security system; eight experts specializing in finance; eight experts specializing in low carbon and the environment; nine experts from manufacturing and service industries; and seven experts specializing in consumer, childcare, and woman's labor affairs. Each group of invited experts discussed the policy direction with the Cabinet members concerned.
Having completed a series of meetings, Prime Minister Aso said, "We had opinions from so many experts, which we think were very meaningful. We will organize these opinions in order for them to be deliberated, as necessary, at the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy and other fora."
