Prime Minister Taro Aso attended the plenary session of the House of Representatives.

During the session, an explanation was given to indicate the purpose of consumer safety bills, including ones to establish an Agency for Consumer Affairs, followed by Q&A sessions. The deliberations of the bills thus started in the Diet.

In response to a question on the establishment of an Agency for Consumer Affairs, Prime Minister Aso said, "Existing administrative organizations have mechanisms for fostering businesses. We will create an Agency for Consumer Affairs to take the exact opposite approach -- that is, to be an ally of the consumers and the people. We are in great need to realize administration that would truly ensure the consumers and the people safety and peace of mind, by establishing the Agency for Consumer Affairs as soon as possible."
